Hotties are heat packs uniquely designed for safety and to retain heat longer.
Hotties heat pack contains plant based material and water. When microwaved, the water heats up.
Because there are no water currents within the heat pack, the transfer of energy from the centre of the heat pack to the edge of your Hottie takes longer. This is why Hottie stays warmer longer.
Refer to the heating instructions on the enclosed safety sheet and on the white Hottie heat pack.
Please note, heating instructions in columns marked 1 and 2 are instructions for heating Hottie from cold (i.e. not recently used or 20°C)
Microwave code |
Power Level IEC 705 | Recommended heating time from cold (20°C) / not recently used | Maximum heating time from cold (20°C) / not recently used | Re-heating from recently used / warm |
---|---|---|---|---|
B | 650 watts | 3 minutes | 3½ minutes | Remove fabric cover if it prevents your Hottie rotating freely in the microwave. Re-heat in 15 second increments, testing temperature each time to avoid damage. |
C or D | 750 watts | 2½ minutes | 3 minutes | |
D or E | 850 watts | 2 minutes | 2½ minutes | |
E | 1000 watts | 1½ minutes | 2 minutes |
To avoid damaging your Hottie do not exceed recommended heating times.
Many of our customers have two heat packs and simply heat their second heat pack instead of re-heating the recently used heat pack. This helps prevent accidental overheating and damage to your Hottie.
To re-heat your Hottie:
Note: Re-heating your Hottie heat pack for longer than recommended time may damage your Hottie.

If overheated, Hottie will expand.
If this happens, stop microwave and leave Hottie to cool for at least ten minutes.
Hotties are designed to fail-safe in the event of overheating. This means, if overheated for a long period of time, the pouch is designed to split. This may create a “bang” noise, but is an important safety feature that prevents the build up of dangerous pressures and hot spots.
It is possible damage has been done to your Hottie if it expands. Please check your Hottie before re-using.
Please do not re-use popped Hotties.
If you pop your Hottie, please email us a photo of the popped Hottie plus a brief description of what happened. We will reply with a coupon for 20% off a replacement heat pack.

We have been making Hotties since 1996 and in all that time we have never learned of a Hottie causing injury or exploding violently.
As Hottie contains no toxic gels or seeds there is no danger of it catching fire or causing burns.
If you overheat Hottie and it pops, leave in microwave for at least ten minutes before lifting out.
Please do not re-use overheated / popped Hotties.

We suggest placing your Hottie on a flat bench and smoothing it out to ensure the heat is even throughout the pack.
Then, hold Hottie to your forearm to check the temperature is right for your skin type and apply.
You can buy Hotties on this website, or at one of our stockists.
Heated correctly, your Hottie will stay warm for up to four hours.
Hotties have no use-by date. Many of our customers use the same Hottie for years, even decades.
How long a Hottie lasts is a function of how carefully it is heated. If always heated correctly there is no reason a Hottie should decline.
We urge people to take extra care when re-heating a recently used Hottie as this seems to be when most people accidentally overheat and damage their Hottie. Please see FAQ "How do I re-heat my Hottie?" for further information on re-heating a Hottie.
Hotties are thermal heat packs made with a uniquely designed heat pack that contains plant based material and water.

Hottie is failsafe.
If overheated, it pops and oozes its water content. This is a built in feature designed to keep you safe. This safety feature also prevents Hottie reaching dangerous temperatures and pressures.
Hottie will not explode or burst violently if overheated. As Hottie contains no toxic gels or seeds there is no danger of it catching fire or causing burns.

Hottie is not a gel pack. Gel packs are known to explode and cause potentially fatal burns.
Hottie is not a wheat pack. Wheat and other grain filled packs are known to cause fatal fires and burns. This is because the grains within the wheat pack continue to heat up after being removed from the microwave and after several uses the grains dry out. As an added bonus because Hottie contains no grains or seeds it will not mould or rot.
Hottie is not a hot water bottle. Hot water bottles are known to cause burns. This is because of the fiddly design requiring filling with boiling water and also due to rubber bursting or splitting, spilling boiling water onto the user.
Hottie is failsafe.
Hotties have been around since 1996 and in all that time we’ve never heard of any incident where one of our Hotties has caused harm to a user.
We designed Hotties because we were concerned about rising incidences of injuries and even deaths caused by exploding heat and wheat packs catching on fire.
If overheated, Hottie pops and oozes its water content. This is a built in feature designed to keep you safe by preventing Hottie reaching dangerous temperatures and pressures.
Hottie will not explode or burst violently if overheated. As Hottie contains no gels or seeds there is no danger of it catching fire or causing burns.
The Hottie patented heat pack contains water soaked into a medical grade, plant based non-woven pad. It does not contain wheat, gels or waxes. The liquid inside is water and is completely safe.
With the exception of the Bite Resistant Pet Hottie all of our covers are machine washable.

The core of the Hottie microwaveable hot water bottle may be recycled. Using scissors, cut open the plastic outer pouch and remove the absorbent material.
The plastic pouch is composed of layers of different plastic types and is classified under Resin Identification Code (RIC) 7, which is the classification for “other plastics”. Ensure your recycling program accepts materials under this classification.
The absorbent material is composed of softwood pulp and may be recycled along with paper products.
