Insomnia

According to the NHS, nearly half of people in the UK suffer from poor sleep or insomnia.

Sleep problems are often caused by stress. Our body reacts to stress by contracting muscles, which become tighter and tighter until it becomes difficult to relax.

Applying heat to habitually tight areas of the body, such as the neck, back and shoulders can help release muscle tension, allowing the body to relax and feel more prepared for sleep.

A structured, before-bed routine helps your body and brain know it’s time to wind down, relax and prepare for sleep. Many of our customers warm a Hottie and use it to help relax tight muscles before bed as part of their nightly routine.

It can also be helpful to use a Hottie to warm the foot end of your bed, or to use Hottie whilst in bed to help release muscle tension without the risk of burns or fires as can happen with seed and grain filled heat packs.

To help overcome sleep problems, you may also want to try:

  • avoiding caffeine
  • getting regular exercise
  • keeping your bedroom dark, quiet, comfortable and for sleeping only
  • following a pre-bedtime routine such as bathing or reading
  • avoiding using or having electronic gadgets or devices in the bedroom

Please seek the advice of your medical professional if lack of sleep is a chronic problem for you.
